Dalam rangka memberantas pembalakan liar dan peningkatan perdagangan kayu legal, Pemerintah Indonesia telah mengembangkan skema nasional penjaminan legalitas kayu sejak 2003. Skema ini dikenal dengan Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK) yang diterima oleh Uni Eropa (UE) melalui Lisensi Forest Law Enforcement Governance and Trade (FLEGT).
