The research group of SEBIJAK INSTITUTE (Faculty of Forestry UGM) seeks a Junior Scientist to execute a study on the global markets’ confidence on the Indonesian Timber Legality Assurance System (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu). Under the supervision of Sebijak’s Senior Scientists to conduct desk studies and reviews of literatures on policies regarding legal/ sustainable timber products (e.g. timber entry-mode policies, procurement policies), trades of timber products of the selected countries, and opportunities on developing bilateral agreements with Indonesia on trades of legal timber.
Job duration: 6 months with potential extensions, starting September/ October 2019
Required Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in forestry, law, economics, public policy, environmental management/science, or other related fields (bachelor’s degree with certain experience also considered)
– Knowledge and understanding on FLEGT, EUTR, Lacey Act, SVLK implementation
– Knowledge on global timber markets, particularly on sustainable/ legal products
– Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
– English proficiency is an advantage
– Strong analytical skills
– Highly responsible and self-motivated
– Well organized and efficient
